Garage sale? Sure.

Every year I hit this week in August and I think to myself: how can I possibly go on/pack anything else into our summer.
So, guess what we're doing tomorrow???
Having a garage sale, of course!
This week has been wild - Henry had his 15 month appt today and he weighs a whopping 20 lbs 4 oz, is 30 1/2" long and has a 47 cm head. Weight = 10 - 25th%, length = 50th % and head = 25th - 50th %.
On the 16th, he cut his finger very badly at daycare. He had to have the tip stitched back on, with the three stitches, and today was the day he got them removed!
I don't think the finger injury was as traumatic to him as it was to all the adults who had to a) witness it, b) hold him down for stitches and c) take care of his poor little mangled finger these past 10 days. I took a poll and we're all ready for a celebratory, no-more-stitches beer!
Emmett has had kind of a tough week - he's been really pushing at bedtime. He comes up with a bajillion little things to delay the inevitable and this week has decided he doesn't want to sleep with his door closed, rather, he'd prefer the baby gate be up and the door open.
Until this past week, Henry and Emmett had been sleeping in the same room at night, but with everyone having colds and various injuries, we've split them up for the time being. One over-tired child is all i can deal with, thankyouverymuch.
Back to Emmett - if you do close his door, he will scream and hit the door for as long as you'll let him. Mickey timed me last night...I made it 7 1/2 minutes. I am not a rock, I'll be the first to admit. When I was little, I had a very hard time going to sleep - lots of fears of the dark, things under my bed and whatever may lurk in the shadows. I'm sure I project this on to Emmett when I hear him screaming, but I just don't want him to have that feeling in the pit of his stomach. So, if he needs to sleep with the door open and the gate up, so be it.
We're embracing a new philosophy in our house and it can be summed up in one word: SIMPLIFY.
We've spent the summer looking around town at the housing market and haven't seen anything we love. So, we've given up and have decided to stay put. With that in mind, Mickey and I are both feeling a renewed sense of purpose to clean out the extra things we don't need around the house and simplify our living. Thus the garage sale tomorrow...it might not sound like something that will simplify our life in the short-term, but man, I can't wait for less stuff! Long-term gain seems like a good thing!
